Pakistan Unveils New Fatah-4 Cruise Missile

Pakistan has unveiled the Fatah-4, the newest addition to the Pakistan Army’s Fatah family. The Fatah Weapon System missile family consists of a wide variety of munitions ranging from Guided Rockets to Ballistic Missiles and Cruise missiles. As the name suggests Fatah-IV is the fourth distinctive member of Army’s Fatah family, where early 3 examples of Fatah family are ballistic weapons, Fatah-4 meanwhile is a Cruise Missile (likely derived from either the Babur/Harbah Family).

All of the systems offered under the Fatah are conventional in nature with payload’s consisting of unitary, cluster warhead etc. Fatah 4 too is conventional in nature and its unveiling marks the clearest indication yet that the Pakistan Army is moving toward a dedicated conventional rocket and missile force designed for precision long-range strikes. Operationalization of Fatah family of weapons will allow Pakistani Army to conduct tactical strikes without involving Army’s Strategic Forces Command (ASFC), This would be a significant shift from the Pakistan Army’s strategy where it has only reserved its ASFC arsenal of Ballistic and Cruise missiles largely for Nuclear deterrent roles.

With a projected range of up to 750 km+ while carrying a warhead of 330kg, Fatah-4 represents a Low Cost Long Range conventional strike capability, offering low-altitude, terrain-hugging flight for survivability against air defenses. The Missile flies at a speed of 0.7 mach, 50m above ground level while adopting terrain hugging flight path to mask its signature. Additionally the missile has a accuracy of <5m, even much lesser when fitted with a EO/IR seeker.

Fatah-4 is also likely able to use modern technologies from Pakistan’s Harbah program such as the high end Dual mode seeker or single mode seeker developed for Harbah AShM, that use either Radar, EO/IR or both. These seekers can be easily adopted for ground attack role. Furthermore the seeker incorporates AI into the EO/IR module, which would enable the Missile to use image scene matching tech to correctly identify its target in GPS Contested environments.

A Decade of Progress: From Rockets to Cruise Missiles

A complete timeline of the evolution of the various variants of Fatah Weapon system is given below:

  1. Fatah-I GMLRS (2021) – Pakistan’s first guided multiple-launch rocket system (GMLRS), mounted on an 8×8 launcher and equipped with GPS/INS guidance. It offered a range up to 140 km with high accuracy, providing a modern alternative to older unguided artillery rockets earlier used by the PA.
  2. Fatah-II GMLRS (2023) – An improved Rocket variant adding onto the earlier Fatah-1, the new rocket had a range of 250km while having multi-stage capability, it enabled deep-strike capability against high-value targets far beyond the frontline.
  3. Fatah-II SSM (2023) – A true surface-to-surface missile (SSM) system with a dual-canister launcher, solid-fuel propulsion, advanced navigation, and a programmable flight path. With a range of 400 km, it enabled deep-strike capability against high-value targets far beyond the frontline.
  4. Fatah-? GMLRS (2025) – A rocket member of the Fatah family with a range of 120km that was tested in 2025. Information regarding it remains largely unknown however its extremely likely to be a new member of the Fatah family, the system could be a Guided rocket version of the PA’s A-100 Unguided MLRS.
  5. Fatah-III SSM (Abdali, 2025) – The second Ballistic missile member, tested successfully in 2025 and officially designated Abdali, this variant extended the range to 450 km. It reportedly is different than the Fatah-II’s platform and acts a more high end platform for strengthening Pakistan’s medium-range precision strike options.
  6. Fatah-IV GLCM (2025) – The newest and most long range member of the family, Fatah-4 is a long-range cruise missile capable of striking targets up to 700 km away. Designed for low-altitude, terrain-following flight, it improves survivability against enemy air defenses while delivering high-precision strikes. This addition gives the Pakistan Army a strategic conventional asset that bridges the gap between shorter-range missiles and longer-range strategic systems.

As the Fatah family matures, its layered range coverage from short-range guided rockets to 700+ km cruise missiles, it positions the Pakistan Army to conduct complex multi-axis strikes against high-value targets with high survivability. The combination of modern guidance systems, diverse warhead options, and mobile launch platforms ensures that the Fatah series will be a cornerstone of Pakistan’s emerging rocket force. In doing so, it strengthens the country’s conventional deterrence posture and reflects a long-term commitment to building a modern, self-reliant missile ecosystem.
